When meeting people for the first time (like in a job interview), have a firm handshake, look them square in the eyes, and speak confidently. Many people may have a hard time doing this, and it may be awkward if you are from a different culture, but it is totally accepted and preferred in America. It shows confidence on your part and people will be more likely to trust you. Remember, you get only one chance to make a first impression.
